Well, as you might have guessed by my Works for Me Wednesday and Frugal Friday blog posts, blog carnivals are some of my favorite things! (Of things one can find online, anyway.) And I've been pondering hosting a blog carnival here, at Homemaking Through the Church Year. While I don't think a weekly blog carnival would quite fit the format of this blog, I've decided a seasonal blog carnival would not only be appropriate, but uplifting, encouraging, and hopefully a ton of fun! So plans are in the works to hold the first annual Lenten Blog Carnival. (To be followed, of course, by an Easter Blog Carnival, a Pentecost Blog Carnival, an Ordinary Time Blog Carnival, an Advent Carnival and an Epiphany Carnival - and maybe an All Saints Day Carnival, just for kicks!)
Anyway, the format I'm considering is going to be more like the format Grand Rounds follows, rather than WFMW. I love WFMW, but I think I'll be able to handle the logistics of putting the carnival together better if I do it Grand Rounds style.
The carnival is scheduled to go live on Ash Wednesday (February 21st, this year), and that means that for your post to be included (and for me not to go nuts putting it together), all posts need to be submitted by Sunday, February 18th, at the end of the day.
To submit, just write a blog entry about Lent (from a Christian perspective), post it on your blog, then email the link to me at jessica (dot) snell (at) gmail (dot) com, and I’ll put the entries together into one post, which will go live on Ash Wednesday, here at Homemaking Through the Church Year.
Also, it's fine if the Lenten post is already up on your blog (it can even be from last year!). It doesn't have to be written specifically for this carnival. Just email me the link.
Lent has long been celebrated in Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox and liturgical Protestant churches alike, and has lately experienced a revival even in non-liturgical Protestant churches. So no matter your Christian tradition, please feel welcome to join the carnival.
(I’m hoping to get all the entries up on the carnival, but I reserve the right to leave some out, mostly because I’ve never done this before, and I’m not quite sure how it’s going to go! Anyway, links will be published at my discretion. Disclaimer done. :D )
I’m looking forward to reading everyone’s thoughts, meditations, stories and musings on this great season, as we remember Christ’s suffering, and prepare to celebrate his resurrection!
peace of Christ to you,
Jessica
p.s. In case you want to participate, but could use some help getting started, here are some ideas for posts:
Lenten Writing Prompts:
-What was your first Lent like?
-What was your most memorable Lenten experience?
-Who taught you your most important Lenten lesson, and what was it?
-What do you see in your mind when you hear the word “Lent”?
-What are you meditating on this Lent?
-What was your best Lenten meditation ever?
-What does fasting teach you? How does it help your Christian walk?
-How do you explain Lent to your children?
-How does observing Lent change your homemaking routine?
-How does your church celebrate Lent?
-What’s the hardest part of Lent? What’s easiest? What’s best?
-Tell a story about Lent.
-Recall the best Lenten sermon you’ve ever heard.
You don’t have to confine yourself to the above prompts, of course. They’re just there to get you writing. I'm looking forward to reading your good words!

Hi Jessica,
I thought you might find these of interest - http://thesefortydays.blogspot.com/2007/02/loveliness-of-lent.html
And also this excellent post from Elizabeth Foss -

I'll be looking forward to your blog carnival, and maybe I'll even contribute something. :-)
I found your post from my regular reading of Joan Curtis' Mommy Life and it inspired me to write. I'm challenged by Lent and challenged by the Spiritual side of things in general at the moment but I'm feeling positive about my Lenten initiative at school and resolved to do more with my own children at home.
AHHHH - I just found this today (after the deadline). Wish I would have found it earlier so I could post a lenton blog to be attached to your carnival. This year during LENT I am really focusing on FOCUSING FULLY on the Lord. For reasons discussed at my blog if you are interested.
God bless!
I'm bummed that I just found you too. I've never celebrated Lent but want to this year.
I will be reading all these posts to see what others are doing.
Thanks for hosting this. I think it'll be a grwoing time.
Jessica - I was reading back through your archives today and read this post. Wow! I don't think I was reading your blog back in Feb of 2007...you had some great plans for seasonal carnivals! I think you know my tendencies toward these, too! Perhaps sometime we should team up and host some of these? I know your time is tight and so is mine, but perhaps we can try to add a couple of these?
Let me know if you'd be interested!
Kerry
